During the cold war, the Department of Energy employed over 650,000 people at 317 different
nuclear weapon production facilities throughout the country. Many of these employees may have been exposed to dangerous
toxic substances.
Nuclear workers with job-related illnesses will soon receive compensation from the Federal government. Approximately $2 billion will be distributed over a period of ten years to workers affected by radiation,
silica,
beryllium, and uranium. Many of these former employees currently suffer from
cancer and
respiratory diseases.
See your doctor if you work in weapons production and you have experienced serious health problems. In addition, it may be important to
contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be
time limits within which you must commence suit.
