Pap smears and other cervical screening techniques are conducted in order to detect
female reproductive system abnormalities such as
cervical cancer. Results of pap smears are reviewed and analyzed by
doctors and other medical professionals who look for abnormal cells.
A recent study in Great Britain revealed that the results of many pap smears are misread, leading doctors to pronounce women cancer free when in fact the pap smear indicates otherwise. Such mistakes lead to
delayed diagnosis of cervical cancer, which in turn may result in women unnecessarily undergoing hysterectomies and some tragically succumbing to cancer.
If you have suffered because of a pap smear related medical error, it may be important to
contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be
time limits within which you must commence suit.
