Lamivudine is an antiviral drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals. Lamivudine is used to treat patients infected with HIV or hepatitis b. The FDA approved Lamivudine in 1998.

While the drug is effective at treating hepatitis b, some researchers question the use of Lamivudine for more than one year. Researchers in Asia have discovered that such long-term use may allow viruses to mutate and cause potentially fatal complications.
