Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., one of the Nation's leading tire makers, has announced a recall of nearly 200,000 light-truck Load Range E tires. Investigators with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) say the tires, used on
15-passenger vans and ambulances, are linked to dozens of tread separation
accidents which have resulted in at least eleven
deaths.
The NHTSA said it would close its investigation into the tire models because of the recall. The models are found on vans built by General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co., and DaimlerChrysler AG. Consumers have filed thirty-one
lawsuits against Goodyear over the tire defect. Reports of similar tread separation incidents led to the massive investigation and recall of
Firestone tires in August 2000.
If you have been injured because of a defective tire, it may be important to
contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be
time limits within which you must commence suit.
