Millions of workers routinely handle carbonless copy paper (CCP) forms each day. Carbonless copy paper is also known as pressure-sensitive paper, reaction-copy paper, color-reaction paper, and self-copying paper. Reports of possible health problems associated with carbonless copy paper have been published in scientific literature.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health evaluated all of the scientific information available on exposure to carbonless copy paper. These studies indicate that there is a moderate link between exposure to, and handling of, carbonless copy paper and irritation of
skin and mucous membranes of the
eyes and upper
respiratory tract. In rare instances, cases of
allergic contact dermatitis and systemic reactions have been reported.
