Doctors commonly prescribe bicarbonate to child
diabetics suffering from ketoacidosis, a potentially deadly condition brought on by a lack of insulin. Recently, researchers discovered that administering bicarbonate to children with ketoacidosis may cause a deadly reaction called
cerebral edema (swelling of the brain). The researchers are recommending that
doctors refrain from using bicarbonate to treat ketoacidosis.
See a doctor if your child has experienced serious side effects associated with bicarbonate. In addition, it may be important to
contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be
time limits within which you must commence suit.
