Albumin Buminate is used by
hospitals to treat
burn victims and patients in
shock. Baxter Healthcare, a Deerfield, Illinois company, is voluntarily recalling one lot of Albumin Buminate 5% after recent tests found HIV-2, a rare form of
HIV, in the plasma used to make the product.
A Baxter Healthcare spokesperson said the recall is being conducted for quality and not safety issues. According to Baxter, this batch of Albumin Buminate met all FDA specifications when it was released in February 2001.
