In August 2003, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began an investigation into side airbags installed in 2001-2003 Lincoln Town Cars. According to dozens of consumer complaints, side
airbags installed on the models are deploying for no reason, a malfunction that could lead to serious injury. A spokesperson for Ford Motor Company said the automaker will fully cooperate with the
NHTSA during the agency's investigation.
